Why do we need special training for early EMDR intervention (EEI)?
Immediately after a trauma occurs, memories have not had time to form into a consolidated whole. Trauma victims experience fragmented memories, and treating these requires the use of different protocols.
“…a fragmented experience that has not yet consolidated so that no single image can represent the entire event. It is therefore necessary to separately process a number of targets, which are aspects or parts of the event in order to facilitate integration and consolidation.”
Francine Shaprio, 1995 and 2001; cited in Elan Shapiro 2009
